Winter is the most yin of all the seasons with two super moons this January on the 2nd & 31st. The energy quality of winter is dim, slow and moves us inward. The earth is still and quiet and animals hibernate to rest and replenish energy. We too may feel physically sluggish and settle towards retreating. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine water (bladder & kidneys) is the primary element of winter. Our Slow Flow sequence for Jan 2 is designed to open up the meridian (energy) lines of the body, promote circulation to replenish vital energy and support equanimity. It’s followed by yoga nidra for deep rest and relaxation.
Yoga Nidra practice instills a brain and body pause while being conscious to your senses. This practice promotes deep rest and relaxation that differs from a basic meditation practice. We do stages of a body scan and expand on breath awareness to calm the nervous system, leading to less stress in the body and overall well-being. It’s the equivalent of two hours of deep sleep.
